About the Year 1 Number Check
The Number Check is a quick and easy way for teachers to gauge the number knowledge of Year 1 students.
The Number Check is not compulsory; however, it has many benefits, including helping teachers to check progress of – and to plan early interventions for – those children who may not yet be attaining the expected level of development.
Administering the Number Check
These support documents will support you to run the Number Check with your Year 1 class.
Teachers guide gives detailed instructions for how to use the online Number Check, including curriculum links, preparation and materials needed, sample scripts and how to record student responses.
Scoring guide gives teachers detailed guidance on the ways students may answer the questions and how to record their responses.
Analysis and response gives teachers and school leaders general guidance about responding to the data they gather from the Number Check results for their class and school, and includes suggested follow up activities and resources for each question in the Number Check.
Practice Check gives teachers a short paper-based practice version of the Number Check to check if modifications need to be made for students with specific needs.
Student paper based is a paper-based version of the Number Check for students, for teachers running the Check offline.
Answer sheet is a paper-based version of the response sheet for teachers to record student responses, for teachers running the Check offline.

Run the Number Check and follow-up
Use the online Number Check to gauge the number knowledge of Year 1 students. After running the check with students refer to the general guidance about responding to the data gathered from the Number Check results for a class and school. This guidance includes suggested follow up activities and resources for each question in the Number Check.
